I wish someone would have told me about blogging years ago. I have only been blogging for a few months, but seriously, why did I never think about this before.
Originally, the idea for me to start a blog came up because I was looking for ways to make a little extra spending money, I think for anyone this is a main reason to start blogging. I did a lot of research about blogging and realized that anyone can actually do it. You don’t need a degree in writing or journalism to blog either.
Of course, starting and keeping an up to date blog is not as easy as 1, 2, 3… done, but it’s not rocket science either. Literally anyone can start a blog as long as you have a computer.
And after writing a few blogs about my adventures in Europe, I realized how much I actually really love blogging. I find myself thinking about blogging topics on my commute to and from work and I am constantly doing more research about different types of blogs.
On the weekends, I love spending the mornings in bed with a fresh coffee and either writing a blog, or researching more ideas for blogs.
And now that I’ve been working on this for a few months, it got me thinking, “why in the world wouldn’t everyone start a blog?!” If a friend were to come to me and say, “I’m thinking of starting a blog, but I don’t know how or why or even if I should.” I would give this friend all my support and help in anyway I could.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t the case for me that I had a friend to convince me to do it. I spent so long researching what blogging is and how to blog.
I can tell you now, that I’m never going back. #onceyoublogyounevergoback
So, here is a list of 4 reasons why I think YOU should start your own blog today.
1 – You can make money $$$
I’m pretty sure this is the main reason people are ever interested in starting a blog. I have to admit, that is the reason I started blogging.
But it’s actually great. Blogging can help you make enough money for your monthly coffee addiction or it can help you make enough money to travel the world.
When I was originally researching blogging, I discovered how many bloggers use their blog as a full-time business to travel. It’s the most amazing thing.
Full-time blogging isn’t the purpose of my blog (famous last words right.. ha!) I am completely content with the funds for my monthly coffee bill, maybe even the occasional weekend adventure.
2 – Blogging is like a permanent diary
I never had a diary. I used to think, “what a waste of time.” Now I can totally see why people have diaries.
Writing a blog not only helps me to remember my adventures, but it creates a permanent story.
On my nightstand, I have a little notebook now that a friend gave me last year (originally bought as a future diary) and now I use it for writing all my blogging ideas. So I guess in a way, the notebook has turned into some sort of diary.
3 – Blogging helps other people
Before when I would scroll through Pinterest, I had never given it much thought as to who was writing all the articles behind the pins. To me, magically, there was information that I was looking for on the internet.
Now, I realize that bloggers are writing the articles behind the pins. And these articles are written from a blogger’s experience to give the reader insight.
When you click on a pin, you are looking for information about travelling, cooking, the best way to study for a test, etc. These articles have been put here to help you.
4 – Blogging gives you new skills
I’m not a very patient person, nor am I a very creative person.
When I started blogging, I honestly didn’t think that I was going to like it.
Now, I LOVE blogging.
I love sitting in my bed and writing a blog. It actually gives me some sort of grounding that I was missing before. I think maybe this goes back to #2 (permanent diary) and being able to tell my story.
When I start writing a new blog, I start reliving the story that I am telling and I have, therefore, had to learn to tell my stories in a creative way. This was really hard for me at first.
And maybe right now, if you haven’t started blogging, you might be thinking that you don’t have any really amazing stories to blog about. I thought the same before I really got going.
But do some brainstorming, you will find that you actually do have a TON of blogging ideas to tell the world.
As an engineer by day, creative writing doesn’t exist in my daily work. But I am slowly learning (researching so many blogs) and discovering how to express myself using creative writing.
What I’m trying to say is… START YOUR BLOG TODAY.
You never know what opportunities it will create for you.
And there are a TON of resources for starting blogs on the internet and Pinterest, ranging from start-up procedures, to ideas, to how much some bloggers make in 1 month. Some of the amounts are insane!!
Feel free to follow my blog as well, I will continue to write blogs about all kinds of my experiences that I hope will influence you and/or help you for ideas.
And if anyone is thinking of travelling to Germany, my last post is about 5 ways to save money using transportation here. Definitely a must read.. I only wish I had known about them when I first moved to Germany.
